Our client is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that provides exceptional healthcare services and coverage. With a dedicated team of over 60,000 professionals, 22 hospitals, 300+ outpatient locations, and several post-acute facilities. Additionally, they offer a provider-sponsored health plan serving more than 1.3 million members. Our client is committed to reimagining a better and more equitable model of health and wellness. However, like many healthcare providers, they faced challenges related to cost-effective and efficient identity and access management in the face of increased staff turnover, regulatory demands, and reliance on electronic health records.
For some time, our client relied on a legacy identity application system to manage access to their systems for staff and partners. As their network expanded and regulatory mandates became more burdensome, the legacy system struggled to keep up with demands. It became complex to manage the operational overhead and costly to update and maintain. Moreover, the system couldn’t effectively provision users with precise levels of access, hindering staff productivity. Compliance requirements, particularly HIPAA regulations, necessitated automated user attestation and validation, which the legacy IDM tool couldn’t support.
The objective of the project was to address these challenges by implementing a modern identity security platform to replace the cumbersome legacy IDM system. The key project objectives included:
To overcome these challenges, our client chose SailPoint as the modern Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) platform and partnered with TechDemocracy for the implementation. TechDemocracy, with its expertise in healthcare identity management, helped this healthcare organization migrate from the legacy system within a record time of five months. They utilized healthcare domain expertise, accelerators, and utilities to ensure a smooth and efficient migration.
The implementation included the following key initiatives:
1. Achieving frictionless, stable, and on-demand scalability through automated infrastructure setup and deployment processes.
2. Integrating with mission-critical applications, such as Workday, Salesforce, Voalte, and Epic Systems, using out-of-the-box connectors.
3. Integrating the EPIC healthcare platform for efficient access management.
4. Rapid application onboarding of disconnected applications and configuration of access reviews.
TechDemocracy continued to support this organisation during the merger between them and another large healthcare provider. This involved migrating the IDM systems from the other organization’s legacy tool to SailPoint IIQ and reconciling and integrating processes and technologies.
The migration and implementation project delivered significant benefits to our client, including:
By modernizing their identity solution and partnering with TechDemocracy, our client achieved improved security, cost savings, compliance adherence, and operational efficiency, enabling them to focus on delivering high-quality healthcare services.
